Ives Park is the kind of unassuming neighborhood spot that ends up being exactly what a slower travel day calls for. There’s a shaded playground for the kids, open lawn for a picnic, a public pool in summer, and enough mature trees that it stays cool even on a warm Sonoma County afternoon. What makes it worth building an evening around, though, is the Peacetown Summer Concert Series — free outdoor concerts held here on Wednesday evenings from June through August, when half of Sebastopol shows up with a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine. If your visit lines up with one of those Wednesdays, it’s one of the most genuinely local things you can do in town. Outside of concert season, it’s a quiet, easy stop for an hour of downtime between other plans — close enough to downtown Sebastopol to combine with lunch or coffee beforehand. Go in the late afternoon for shade and a mellower crowd, or plan around a Wednesday evening in summer if the concert series is running during your stay.
